5 Tips for Instagram Interior Designers to implement right away!
To stand out on Instagram, interior designers need to do more than just share pretty pictures. When utilized well, Instagram is a powerful platform and the perfect place for interior designers to connect, inspire, and grow their businesses. A thoughtful Instagram strategy is key and can help you:
- Book MORE of your dream clients
- Share your design process
- Express your creativity
- And connect on a personal level with clients and collaborators
Here are five Instagram tips from Social By Annalise, curated just for interior designers like you who are ready to make a lasting impression online.
- Showcase Before and Afters
Everyone (your dream clients are no exception) loves a good “before and after” transformation. Instagram is the perfect place for interior designers to post the impact of their work by highlighting what’s possible.
Create a carousel post that tells a story of the project. Start with the “after” photo to grab attention and provide the WOW factor, and then show before, during, and after again. Add a caption that speaks to your design inspiration, the client’s goals, and the magic that brought it all together.
- Share Behind-the-Scenes & Sneak Peeks
People don’t just want to see the final product; they want to see how you got there and those day-in-the-life shares along the way! Pull back the curtain (err, drapes if you prefer) and give them an Instagram peek into your interior design world.
Post snippets of sourcing trips, site visits, design hiccups (we all have them), mood boards, sketches, and anything else relevant to your specific interior design brand and business.
- Engage, Engage, Engage
It’s called social media for a reason. Instagram is a social platform, so be sure to use it as a place for relationship-building and starting conversations.
Don’t: post and ghost. Meaning, don’t post your images and then never open your app again.
Do: Ask questions in your captions ie., “Would you go bold or neutral with accessories in this living room?” or “What’s your dream kitchen must-have?”
Do: Comment on other posts, use your DM’s and messages, and invite interaction as you learn more about your audience and their preferences.
- Highlight Unique Elements
Don’t let that fabulous fixture or layers of texture go without its moment in the sun. If you’ve got something that sets you apart as a designer, share it for everyone to see! Maybe it’s your eye for quirky antiques, an obsession with maximizing natural light, or mixing metals where no metals have been mixed before.
Whatever it is, show it off!
Post a close-up or standout statement piece or space and tell the story behind it. Why that color? What inspired that palette or pattern? Details like these help followers fall in love with your signature style and YOU.
- Keep it Consistent
You don’t need me to tell you the power of visual harmony, and your Instagram grid is no place to skimp on a cohesive aesthetic as an interior designer. A tailored-to-your-brand feed helps strengthen your brand identity and keeps people scrolling (and following). You’ll be more recognizable, memorable, and stand out.
Choose a signature color palette or editing style that’s in line with your visual branding and stick to it. Soft and serene, bold and electric, earthy and grounding, let it be reflected in your grid. Consistency makes you look polished and stand out in a sea of content.
